Spring Fitness Wishlist and Summer Weight Loss Goals

Hi guys, how's it going?

It would seem as though it's that time of year again when news feeds and twitter pages are filled with misery. I don't mean to alarm anyone, but ...

THERE ARE ONLY A FEW MONTHS UNTIL SUMMER!

I know right? I can hardly believe it myself ... time flies! On a more terrifying note, however, I can almost hear the screams of those who have a beach holiday booked, from those who want to go out wearing the legal minimum amount of clothing on hot sticky days, from those who just want to look fabulous sunbathing whether it's in the back garden, at Skeggy Beach or on the Costa Del Sol! Fear not beautiful people, for I have the answer to motivation problems nationwide.

I myself, much like the rest of the female nation, am currently on a health kick preparing for this Summer. It's not the first time in my twenty years of life that I've tried, but it is the first time I've seen results; I have managed to lose over a stone in the space of a few months but I still have a long way to go. The ultimate goal for this Summer's festival season and Europe travel trip with my best friend is to feel comfortable wearing a pair of shorts, something that I haven't done for years.

Winning With Save The Student | £250 ASOS Vouchers

Hi guys,

I was in a lecture the other day when I received an e-mail from one of the nice chaps over at Save the Student. I'd won their monthly competition which, for February/March, meant I'd blagged myself a £250 ASOS voucher. I hadn't really heard of Save The Student before, so was a bit dubious (quite rightly so, in this day and age) but I didn't have to part with any details and before long, ASOS themselves e-mailed me with the voucher code which is now sitting pretty on my ASOS account as credit, although not as pretty as my wardrobe will be this Summer now.

The past year has been quite a lucky one for me competition wise. I've so far managed to blag a couple of wonderful Black Heart Creatives necklaces, in addition to a case of wine from Naked Wines thanks to Joe Browns. You really have to be in it to win it, so I suggest y'all keep your eyes peeled for Facebook and Twitter competitions, as well as those on company, magazine, radio or TV channel websites. Who knows, it could be you deciding what to spend your £250 Nando's voucher on next month, or maybe you'll win something even bigger!

Be sure to enter here and check out their student centred articles, deals, tips and tricks. You must be currently studying at University to be considered.

Get on it and good luck!

From A Galaxy Far Far Away/ A Royal Mail Sorting Office in Sheffield

As my first proper blog post, I thought I should choose something that would set the tone of things to come, to give you beautiful people an idea of what's ahead. I didn't even have to think because the answer fell out of the sky from a galaxy far far away and into my postbox ... OK, it fell from the postie's mailbag into a university accommodation office in Sheffield, but let's not worry ourselves with the technicalities.

A few weeks ago in a supermarket queue I spotted a man wearing some very cool Vans Slip-Ons, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope ones to be precise. I pointed enthusiastically as silently as I could, mouthing "LOOK AT THAT DUDE'S SHOES" to my boyfriend ... what must other nearby customers have thought?! Anyway, he looked, he saw but he didn't share my enthusiasm. Anyway, I soon forgot about them and didn't bother to look online for a similar pair as I presumed that: a) they wouldn't do them in women's sizes and b) they'd be hella expensive. To cut a long story short, I recently saw a female classmate wearing the same pair, got talking and turns out she found them for TWENTY QUID so naturally I got home and ordered them straight away. The stockist that had them for £19.99 reduced from £50 had sold out in my size (UK 5) so I did what any desperate gal would do and turned to my old buddy old pal eBay, and within 10 minutes had found myself a pair of brand spankers for just £7 more from seller 4feetshoes.com - the trainers are available from their eBay store for £27.99 (+£1.99 p&p).

The shoes arrived 3 working days after the order was placed, fully tracked, and are far more glorious than the provided photos give them justice. The design of everything from the box to the Star Wars logo printed tissue paper used to wrap the shoes has obviously been carefully considered, with the box itself having an attractive graphic design featuring the Star Wars logo, the key characters that we all know and love and Death Star. I know those parts aren't wearable but pretty cool, hey?

Losing My Blogging Virginity

Hi dudes and dudettes,

First, to introduce myself: I'm Jess, a student currently reading Geography at Sheffield Hallam University. I enjoy the same cliché things adored by most, such as food (making and eating it), seeing new places, a cold pint on a sunny afternoon and a ruddy good book, although rock and metal music are my main love, after family and friends of course! My musical taste ranges from Pink Floyd to Lamb of God and everything in between... and yes, that does include Enya!

I'm not sure of the type of person that will most reflect the typical reader of this blog, in fact the only beings to ever actually stumble across it will probably include just myself, the odd sympathetic friend or relative, and the dust particles floating across my laptop screen. However, even if page views only extend that far, I will be extremely happy. Hopefully I will write about topics that most of you find interesting.

This blog doesn't have a set theme, I am purely "winging it" for my own enjoyment and so haven't predetermined the type of post that I wish to convey most regularly, but you can bet your bottom dollar each post will be in some way related to:

  • Food - by way of recipes that I find or concoct, money saving ideas and the like. (I'm a student - cheap meals are my thang).
  • Clothes, shoes, accessories - the things I want/ need (obvs), buy or find cool.
  • Travel - Wherever I may roam ....
  • Music - rock and metal bands and their tours, the festivals they frequent, music and gig reviews etc. etc.
So, that concludes my first post. This blogging malarky seems hella fun so far.

Here's to rock and roll,
Jess
